Reflections:
The week of PDW is filled with amazing speakers from many fields of expertise. Gives students a good insight into the industries and provide guides that helps students to start their career.
The most meaningful speaker was "Working on World Class Projects in Game & Entertainment Industry” because I’m taking entertainment as my specialization and my future career I want to pursue is a concept artist this has been really eye-opening. Hearing it first was, to be honest really intimidating and made me self-doubting myself as on my progress and my current state as an entertainment student, realizing there are so many skilled artists the industry is really competitive and I’ve heard the same thing from my lecturer. But it also makes me motivated more to improve my art skill and surprisingly I get to learn about the time management of a concept artist, I would’ve thought they are stuck in their desk from 8 AM - 6 PM but from what I see they have a lot of fun also. I ager more to be a better artist that can jump into the industry.
-In "Accessibility & Universal Design Project Implementation" sessions, I get to learn how important it is for us as a humanity to progress where everyone is will feel included, especially those with a disability, I get to appreciate more the amount of thought and the overall planning in designing. I think the speaker said something about nothing is perfect there’s always improvement needed, and more and more problems going to be faced, that is really an important message for students, especially for design students when sometimes we get too stuck in detail trying to make this “perfect” but sometimes only time can only tell.
The process of job hunting, and job interviews is nerve-wracking but after attending "Best Practices in Curating Architectural Design CV & Portfolio" and "Best Practices and Personal Branding Strategy using LinkedIn" I get a clearer view of what the priorities for preparing to find a job. CV & Portfolio should be treated as there is your brand on how you want to be presented. And LInked is by far the best platform to do job hunting so setting up it is important.
The last one for me ended perfectly, it was about mental health
The enormous amount of stress has been weighing me down a lot, especially this semester when I got to do my final year project and then thinking what to do after graduation, I’m so glad I'm taking this one because I can see that so many of my peers are doing their FYP as well, I can feel the pressure on everyone that join this session, in some way a bit of the pressure slightly lifted knowing I'm not alone. I discovered more ways to relife pressure, de-stress, and how to deal with mental health which I really needed.
Overall, life after graduating is very intimidating for me, and I’m far from ready so I’m thankful that the lecturer provided us with this webinar, Now I get a clearer view of what to prepare: Networking, Resume, and also portfolio are important.
