Instructions 




Week 1:

On this day, we got a brief about the direction of the project. Mr. Aszrizal gave us three paths to choose from:

1. Continuation of our dissertation
2. Find a client
3. Fulfil one of the UNSDG Goals

Because my dissertation is about exploring character design style so  I decide to proceed with that.


Week 2:

This week I start with my initial idea of making characters for local farmers from Indonesia. 




Feedback: I need to do more research on the subject of Indonesian farmers


Week 3:

All my progress will be recorded in Miro:

 
This week I finalize my idea for major project:

CONTINUING FROM THE DISSERTATION ( CHARACTER DESIGN) & COMBING IT WITH SGD

CONCEPT DIRECTION 

GENRE:

  • ADVENTURE
  • FANTASY
  • STORY-DRIVEN
  • MYSTERY

LOCATION & CULTURE :

  • Bali and farming culture
  • A lot of rice field and agricultural
  • Architectural: temples, statue etc
  • The pakaian wont be to traditional more modern

TIME & ERA :

  • 2050 or 20 years from now
  • Mix era futuristic (advance tech) but still traditional

THEME :

  • BE MORE THAN JUST A PROFESSION
  • NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATE

ROJECT TITLE: "MILLED"

past tense: milled; past participle: milled

  1. grind (something) in a mill.
  2. "hard wheats are easily milled into white flour"

Milled rice

Rice kernels that have been milled to remove the bran, leaving "white" or milled rice. After removal of broken kernels, whole milled rice is the type most often found in stores for normal cooking.

"Milled" will symbolize growth and refinement without limit, just like how the paddy milled need a multiple process to be white rice, even then a milled rice still need to be cook to become the rice we all loved.

CHARACTERS:

  1. PROTAGONIST: IRA
  • Farmer's Boy
  • Personality : Country bumpkin, chaotic,
  • cheerful and energetic.
  • Age: 14
  • Shape-language: Mix of circle and square.
  • Color: Bright red/orange, strong bold color
  • Favorite food : Rice and sambal Matah

2. Friend 1:

  • Personality: Timid, scaredy-cat, innocent
  • Age: 13
  • Shape-language: Round
  • Color: Warm tone
  • Favorite food: likes sweet fruit.

 3. Friend 4: Lasi

  • A cold girl, but smart
  • sharped tongue
  • shape language: triangle
  • Color: Cool tone
  • Favorite food: plain toast

 4. Ira's Dad:

  • Kind hearted old farmer & single-dad.
  • Very passionate about farming

Filler character:

  1. Farmers
  2. villager
  3. other children


Feedback from Mr. Azsrizal: 

Consider changing the title to be Indonesian "giling"/ ulek. Research is fine, I need to keep closely in mind the refinement of the artwork to be finalized. Keep searching for  references etc. Make sure that the viewed not in my expertise can understand the massage and what I want to communicate, understand the setting concept and the futuristic aspect. Later on, Mr. Kannan makes sure to explain to him.



Week 4:

I started compiling more references for the characters and environment. Then I start with my initial sketches of the characters. 



This week has no feedback due to the supervisor's circumstances.



Week 5:



 
Feedback from Mr. Kannan: 
- The Artbook needs to have a purpose for instance for a game or an animation
- Do more research on animation on what kind of animations to do
- Elaborate more on the story 



Week 6:

This week I did more thumbnail sketches for the characters and the environment



Feedback from Mr. Kannan:

- FIx the anatomy and the proportions 
-  The farm is too broad and too empty


Week 8:

The night before the presentation I did a consultation with Mr. Kannan
Feedback:
- The anatomy needs to be fix
- Story is too long shortens a bit
- Explore more about the environment

Feedback:
- From Mr. Vinod: The idea is good already, on track a
- From Ms. Anis and Mr. Shamsul: Need to change the anatomy of the girl is too muscular 


Week 10:

This week I created the Village for the story



Feedback from Mr. Kannan:

The village can be used already but need to add something like symbolism perhaps, to add more narrative and selling point can extend the village and temple.





Week 13:

I was busy the past weeks trying to make all the assets for the concept,  this week I created the food company as well as Ira's farmhouse. After that, I also created the turnaround of Ira's and worked on the other characters 





Feedback from Mr. Kannan:

Still missing a lot and need to do a lot more work that needs to be done, in the remaining days make sure the drawing is solid. short it out like an actual book.



Week 15:

These remaining days I need to rush a lot of things I started to finish up the characters and the environment 








After that, I created the cover for the book


As well as a few Illustration for the book
